📢SCHEDULE CHANGE: Due to predicted sub zero temperatures in the early morning, Washington County Public Schools will operate on a 2-hour delayed schedule tomorrow, Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Childcare for elementary students will be provided at elementary schools (for elementary aged students only) for working families who need it. Please watch for additional information from your child’s elementary school. As temperatures drop, we recognize that for some students, school is the warmest place they have access to. We have made significant efforts to ensure children who need hats, gloves, and jackets receive them. If you know of a child who may need assistance, please contact your school principal so we can provide support.

Glade Spring Middle School proudly celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day by honoring his legacy of hope, courage, and equality. Students watched Dr. King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech and reflected on its powerful message through a journal-writing activity. By writing about their own dreams for the future, students connected Dr. King’s vision to their lives today, fostering meaningful conversations about leadership, perseverance, and making a positive impact in their community. Additionally, under the guidance of Ms. Harris, members of the SCA went to Faith in Action to volunteer to honor Dr. King’s vision by turning his message of service, justice, and community unity into action that helps others and strengthens society.

During a luncheon held at the SWVHEC, the Washington County Chamber of Commerce recognized GSMS teacher of the year Ms. Amy Surber as Washington County Middle School teacher of the year. Congratulations Ms. Surber! The Rebel family is so proud of you!

Mrs. Cannon is working with 8th grade science students today on understanding tectonic plate movement and the types of waves they create!

Before Christmas, students in Ms. Chatten’s 7th grade English class took learning global 🌍 with a creative twist! Through the Global Realty Project, students researched different countries, used AI tools to design culturally inspired gingerbread houses, and created real estate–style posters to “sell” their designs. A fun blend of research, creativity, technology, and presentation skills—sweet learning at its best! 🍪🏠

📢SCHEDULE UPDATE: Washington County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday, December 15, 2025. Most roads are clear and dry and we had hoped that more secondary roads would improve throughout the day. However, there are several areas in every part of the county that still have roads that are ice covered. WCPS Offices will open at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Childcare will be available beginning at 10:00a.m. Please watch for additional information from your child’s elementary school. Be safe and stay warm!

GSMS band concert for today has been cancelled.

The All District band auditions scheduled for this Saturday at John Battle has been delayed by 1 hour. Registration will now begin at 9:30

As a result, WCPS will operate on a 2-hour delayed schedule tomorrow, Friday, December 12, 2025. What a great morning at GSMS! Our SCA hosted a teacher appreciation breakfast in honor of American Education Week. We are beyond thankful for our wonderful teachers and everything they do for our students!

Save a Turkey! Feast on Books! This Thanksgiving, let’s give turkeys a break and instead “gobble” up some knowledge and adventure. Glade Spring Middle School encourages everyone to swap the fork for a bookmark.

However, due to road conditions, bus service will NOT be provided in the Konnarock, Taylor’s Valley, and Green Cove areas.
