GSMS students held a BOOK LOVE drive during the month of February where they collected 182 books to donate to the local 21st Century Packhorse Librarians SWVA program. This program was established in our area after Hurricane Helene hit. Many people wanted to bring comfort to those affected by the storm, but they may have lived far away so they sent BOOKS instead. Thousands of books have been donated by individuals, authors, and publishers, bringing hope and joy to readers across Western North Carolina. The books are being given away for FREE at locations across SWVA. Our students wanted to help be a little part of this ongoing project by donating some of their well-loved books from their homes. The 21st Century Packhorse Librarians are sharing the joy of reading one book at a time. If you want to learn more, follow 21st Century Packhorse Librarians SWVA on Facebook.

GSMS Represents @ Glade Spring's 150th Celebration
On Saturday, May 22, Brinly Merrill and Scarlett Bledsoe read their award winning essays at the Town of Glade's 150th Celebration. During the month of February and March, 5 girls worked hard on writing about " What Glade Spring Means to Me." Addy Cannon, Lily Baranowski, Scarlett Bledsoe, Brinly Merrill, and Olivia Jackson worked hard on their essays. In the end, Brinly won 1st place with Scarlett as 1st runner up. Congratulations to all who worked hard for this very special celebration. Dr. Brannon and Dr. Sanders were present for the reading of their essays.

GSMS 8th grader Lane B. read his essay to the Black Fort Chapter of the DAR as the winner of the DAR essay contest. He shared with the audience a historical fictional account of how many citizens participated in other tea parties across the nation that helped propel our nation to the American Revolution.
Congratulations to Lane and his Language Arts teacher, Mrs Counts.

Principals are calling the plays and assigning members of the Central Services team to assist – letting staff catch a breather.
Glade Spring Middle School sends a special shoutout and thank you to Dr. Yost and Mrs. O’Neill for helping out today!
We are turning up the teamwork to make this March Madness a slam dunk for everyone!

Schedule Update: It has been a busy day for our road checkers, assessing road conditions across the county. VDOT has done a great job of clearing roads of snow and ice. As a result, WCPS will operate on a 2-Hour Delayed Schedule tomorrow, Friday, February 21, 2025.
We are aware that some roads, particularly in the Valley Institute area, remain snow and ice covered. Because of this, buses will be running on clear routes only. We encourage parents of teen drivers to check road conditions before they head out in the morning. If slick roads prevent your child from attending school, please contact your child's principal.
The 2-Hour Delay will also give real feel temperatures time to rise by about 10 degrees between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
Childcare will be provided at elementary schools for working parents. Please be on the lookout for additional information from your child's school.
Our road checkers will be out again early tomorrow morning evaluating conditions. Should a shift to a Remote Learning Day be necessary, a decision will be made by 7:00 a.m. Please note, if we transition to a Remote Learning Day, childcare will not be provided.
Stay safe, and we will keep you updated!
