One-To-One Computer Initiative
Washington County Public Schools are excited to announce the beginning of a one-to-one computer initiative for students beginning with the 2016-2017 school year. The initial distribution of computer devices will begin with the incoming 8th and 9th grade students and will continue each year thereafter at the 8th grade level.
The purpose of this initiative is to maximize the use of technology to support the mission of Washington County Schools by creating learning environments that promote student learning; engage students in rigorous student-centered learning experiences; inspire students to be competent and responsible 21st Century citizens with the critical thinking skills for being creative real world problem solvers; which leads to being successful in college or the career of their choice.
We have worked to create this initiative so there will be equitable access for all students with their security and privacy of information protected at all times. Intensive training in the use of the device for educational purposes and personal online security will be provided for students after they receive their device. An initial group of teachers have and will be provided training to effectively and efficiently utilize the device for quality learning activities and will continue as the program expands.
Distribution of the devices will occur just prior to or during the first week of the 2016-2017 school year, with you as parent/guardian receiving additional information regarding the expectations at that time. Again, this is an opportunity for Washington County Schools to move forward in an innovative manner that prepares students for the future.
